Atlantic Rugby Academy invited to UR7s Schools Invitational on Sat. 2nd Sept. 2017
UR7s SA have today announced a game-changing schoolboy 7s tournament to be launched in Cape Town in September.
Atlantic Rugby Academy are entering old boys teams at under 14, 15 and 16 level in the tournament, which is a very prestige tournament featuring top schools in all the age groups. It would be inspiring for them (“old boys”) to receive enthusiastic support from the Atlantic family of 2017.
The Nashua UR7s Schools Invitational will take at place at Hamilton’s Rugby Club in Cape Town, South Africa on the 2nd September 2017. This innovative and game-changing tournament, which is a first-of-its-kind in South Africa aims to promote the development of Sevens at schoolboy level and showcase some of the best skills, running rugby and future talent from around the Western Cape.
UR7s Global has successfully delivered large scales junior tournaments worldwide and will be carrying their global achievements to South Africa.
In keeping with their current intensive development efforts through South Africa, Nashua will becoming on board to advance support for rugby and more specifically skills at grass roots level.
This invitational tournament style tournament has been created with a major focus on development and the future stars of the World Series circuit in mind. From having pre-tournament development programs with schools, to on the day live coaching and “coach the coaches” sessions, to post-tournament All-star sessions the emphasis to teach the players and the schoolboy rugby community more about the game.
Competing teams will include traditional rugby powerhouses from across the Western Cape alongside development programs that have been identified as doing excellent work both in their communities and on the field developing young talent.
If the on field action is not enough for you, then the off field action will do the trick. There will be a farmers market and bespoke food village to get your hands on some of Cape Town’s finest foods. There’ll be an “Old Boys” beer garden where Old Boys and parents will be able to socialise and cheer on their local schools.
Major rugby nations such as New Zealand and the UK have long had major schoolboy 7s tournaments including the world’s largest tournament in London, the Rosslyn Park School Boy 7s and in New Zealand, the Condor 7s. UR7s Global also host 80+ junior age-grade sides in May each year with 2018 set to be the 6th annual competition at Basingstoke Rugby Club.
If you aren’t based in Cape Town then no need to despair, as the main field with be live streamed for the duration of the day with big screens of the action also installed at Hamilton’s.
This tournament is a stepping-stone to greater things. UR7s South Africa aims to deliver world-class schoolboy Sevens tournaments around South Africa supplemented by selective training academies. They are looking forward to doing their part in creating the future Blitzboks.
South Africa are the reigning World Series Champions after victory in 16/17 season whilst also winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and bronze at the Rio Olympics.
2018 is Rugby World Cup 7s season with the tournament taking place in San Francisco with South Africa aiming for further glory.
